Where does your creativity come from? Why pineapples? What inspires you?
These are questions that I have encountered as I have embarked on my maker journey here at A Plush Pineapple, and what better way to begin than by sharing a few pieces of myself with you!
Where does my creativity come from?
Where does my creativity come from? For as long as I can remember, I have been a creative. I was the child that was drawn to origami, how-to-draw books, and friendship bracelets. To contemplate the origin of my love of creativity would lead me straight back to my gramma who is nothing short of amazing!
Let me list just a few of the many talents she possesses. She is an artist with a full-blown art studio. She could sit down with you and paint a real-life portrait of you. Not only does she paint, but she also does woodworking. She designed and BUILT both of the vanities in her two bathrooms. The list could go on and on, but I’ll leave you with the fact that after a recent conversation that I had with her about my need of a yarn bowl, my 83-year-old gramma hand threw, painted, and glazed my very own custom yarn bowl!
Why Pineapples?
Why pineapples? I am part Filipino, born in Hawaii, and raised in Florida. These three factors contribute to my high tolerance level for SUNSHINE and WARMTH! I have a love for all things tropical including (but not limited to) the ocean, palm trees, coconuts, seafood, and of course, pineapples! When I moved away from Florida, I was determined to cling to my love of the tropics no matter where I lived, and thus decorated my house with a tropical theme. Pineapples are a recurring part of that theme, and I even have a potted pineapple plant that I’m hoping will one day produce a fruit! When choosing a business brand, I decided to choose something that I love and represents who I am as a person, thus A Plush Pineapple was born!
Since beginning this maker journey, I have decided to focus my content on modern crochet makes with a tropical flavor. Many of my designs have pineapples worked into the color work such as in The Pineapple Tee or have texture reminiscent of pineapples as in The Poppin’ Pineapple Pullover!
What inspires me?
What inspires me? This question is impossible to answer! As a creative, the answer is everything! I see colors in the world around me and wonder how I could incorporate them into my next project. I see a wall hanging in a store and automatically think, “How did they make this?” or “How can I make this on my own?”
I have no fears when it comes to creating! In fact, I had never touched a sewing machine a day in my life, but when I saw a puff quilt for the first time while I was expecting my son, I thought to myself, “I can make that!” and I did! That first puff quilt opened the door to my maker journey. I have recently decided to begin down the path of designing, and it is my hope that I can inspire you here at A Plush Pineapple to create the things that I have envisioned and in doing so leave a little bit of tropical sunshine wherever those projects…
