“Real queens fix each other’s crowns.”

-Unknown

When I found out that I was accepted to guest design for Make & Do Crew, I knew I wanted it to be a special design.

I wanted the inspiration behind The Pineapple Crown Beanie to speak through the subtle texture and provide a constant gentle reminder.

The Inspiration

There are moments in life that define you. These moments change who you are as a person. These moments divide your life into two sections, who you were before and who you are now. Recovering from these moments is hard…really…hard. You don’t feel like yourself. You used to feel like singing or humming. Now? You feel like staring numbly ahead at nothing in particular. You used to feel like joking and laughing about just about anything. Now, you find tears randomly rolling down your face for seemingly no reason.

Sometimes life gets tough, and I mean really tough. Major life changes can come about in a fleeting moment or as the result of one decision. These circumstances can leave a giant question mark on the future. In times like these, we must remember that the only way out is through! You can either choose to pout and feel miserable or you can choose to pick yourself up and move forward the best way you know how! The inspiration behind the Pineapple Crown Beanie is the following quote, “Be a Pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown, and stay sweet on the inside.”

The Design

The Pineapple Crown Beanie is designed in such a way that it displays crochet cables strategically placed to resemble pineapples. Despite the quiet summer feel, it is totally winter appropriate as it features LOTS of squishy texture and has a great fit! There are also many color change variations written into the pattern to provide the maker with lots of options.

This is a FREE pattern that I designed specifically for the Make & Do Crew audience and can be found on the Make & Do Crew blog! The free version of the pattern includes detailed row-by-row instructions, and I have also provided video tutorials for Rounds 3-6 & 9 below! First, you will need to hop over to Make & Do Crew to get all the details on how to get started. Then you can jump back over here if you find you need these videos to assist you in completing the project. You can also purchase the PDF version from my Etsy or Ravelry which includes even more detailed progress photos!

Just as The Pineapple Crown Beanie has subtle texture that is reminiscent of pineapples, my hope is for it to also be a subtle reminder that in the difficult moments, sometimes you just need to straighten that crown and move forward towards loving friends, brighter days, …

…and sweeter victories!

Sarah is the maker and designer behind A Plush Pineapple. She is a wife of thirteen years to her college sweetheart and momma to two awesome kiddos. When she is not crocheting, designing, or blogging, you can probably find her soaking up the sun or eating seafood. Her goal as a designer is that love, sunshine, and pineapples make their way into the hearts and homes of all who make her designs.
